New Bar Review - The Thirsty Monk

The downtown beer scene is getting an intriguing new player with the opening of the Thirsty Monk downtown Euro-pub devoted exclusively to Belgian and Belgian-style brews.

The pub is at 50 Commerce St., near the corner of Coxe and Patton avenues, former home of Hookah Joe’s and before that, The Basement.

The Thirsty Monk will serve 13 drafts, and 130-140 different bottled beers, plus cheeses, chocolates and eventually, crepes.

The Thirsty Monk is the latest addition to what has become a brewing and pub district along and near Coxe Avenue, a stretch of downtown that includes Jack of the Wood, Asheville Brewing Co. and Green Man Brewing Co.

I've gone approximately 8 times since opening, great, unusual beers, this is a fucking GREAT place to bring someone who is not a big beer fan, since they have quite a selection of beers that have more of a wine or bubbly taste. Yum Yum. Bring yer wallet though, it gets kinda pricey. I recommend going with the flights of beer, you get 3 have glasses for roughly 7 bucks.
